I’m still glowing from Gemstoned opening at Loiter Galleries! Seeing the walls filled with my diamond paintings, and the room filled with so many of you, was beyond anything I could have imagined. Thank you for bringing your energy, your curiosity, and your support. You made the night unforgettable.
While many of you know me for my large-scale diamond portraits, Gemstoned takes a different, more intimate approach. This show is filled with magnified views of precious gemstones such as emerald, ruby, and sapphire, along with semi-precious gemstones like garnet, tourmaline, and opal, as well as organic gemstones such as ammonite. By zooming in on their surfaces, I wanted to highlight the intricate patterns, colors, and textures that often go unnoticed when we admire these stones from afar.
I also introduced a new series for this show: gradient paintings inspired by the color spectrum visible through a gemstone spectroscope. These soft, shifting hues capture the hidden light within a gem, the colors you might never see unless you’re looking closely with the right lens.
For me, Gemstoned is about slowing down, looking deeper, and noticing the beauty in the smallest details. Through the faceted lenses that I offered to guests, the colors fractured into kaleidoscopic patterns, mimicking the way light bounces inside a real gemstone. Some people tilted their heads, shifting the glasses slightly to catch a new burst of color, while others stood perfectly still, letting the fractured view wash over them. This interactive part of the show transforms the way guests experience the work, making the act of looking feel playful, curious, and completely immersive.
If you missed the opening, Gemstoned will be on view at Loiter Galleries through June 24th. I hope you’ll come see it in person, there’s a depth in these paintings that photographs just can’t capture.
Thank you for making this opening night so memorable!
